Italy legal updates: Mafia corruption probes and various criminal convictions

Various legal developments and criminal proceedings are unfolding across Italy. In Sicily, the Palermo Prosecutor's Office has requested several prison sentences in an investigation into alleged ties between the mafia, public contracts, and regional bureaucracy. Prosecutors are seeking up to 8 years and 8 months for Carmelo Vetro and 8 years for regional official Giancarlo Teresi regarding corruption related to public works, such as port dredging.

In another high-profile case, the prosecutor in Palermo has requested a five-year and four-month sentence for Floriana Calcagno, an instructor accused of aiding the fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro.
