City of Blood: New dystopian vampire series set in Berlin

The new Disney+ thriller series “City of Blood,” based on the graphic novel series “Berlinoir,” is set to premiere on September 16. Set in a dystopian near-future Berlin, the eight-episode series explores a city ravaged by climate change and extreme social inequality.

In this setting, the Spree river has dwindled and the Tiergarten is withered. While much of the population struggles with poverty and heat in makeshift camps, the wealthy live in luxury under a climate-controlled dome near the Gedächtniskirche. The plot follows two estranged sisters, Bea (Lea Drinda) and Phoebe (Soma Pysall), who reunite amidst political turmoil and the rise of populism.

Adding a supernatural element, the series features vampires who control organized crime and seek political power, using human blood as a form of currency. The cast includes Lars Eidinger, Jördis Triebel, and David Schütter. The production has been noted for its attempt to reflect contemporary global tensions, including environmental crises and political extremism.
