Babylon Festival of Cultures and Arts concludes in Iraq

Ali al-Shallah, president of the Babylon Festival of Cultures and Arts, addressed the closing ceremony of the festival, emphasizing the necessity of national capital to support culture and the arts. He stated that private sector support is vital for ensuring the independence of cultural institutions and expressed concern that culture and art should not be the first victims of austerity measures.

The festival featured participants from most Arab nations and international figures from locations including Canada. Al-Shallah acknowledged the contributions of sponsors such as Asiacell and Baghdad Soft Drinks, as well as the involvement of UNESCO. He also extended gratitude to the Iraqi Prime Minister and security forces for their roles in the festival's success and the protection of the ancient city of Babylon.
