Bac Ninh authorities investigate drainage project quality concerns
Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of a 9.7 billion VND drainage culvert project in Tien Luc Commune, Bac Ninh province, after images surfaced on social media showing styrofoam and exposed steel reinforcement within the structure.
Local residents reported finding styrofoam material inside the construction site, leading to fears that it was used to reduce concrete volume and compromise structural integrity. Some residents also noted signs of porous and non-dense concrete.
The Tien Luc Commune People's Committee addressed the issue, stating that the styrofoam was not intended to replace concrete but was used to support wooden boards during the pouring process in designated hollow technical gaps. However, officials acknowledged that some steel reinforcement was exposed, which should have been covered by a 10-15 cm layer of concrete according to design specifications.
The local government has ordered the contractor to rectify these technical deficiencies by removing substandard concrete and re-pouring it to meet required standards before the project is completed and officially accepted.
