Bac Ninh denies rumors of merging 99 communes into 34 units

Authorities in Bac Ninh province have officially debunked viral social media reports claiming a plan to merge 99 communes and wards into just 34 administrative units.

Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Director of the Bac Ninh Department of Home Affairs, stated that the information is false and inaccurate. The department, which serves as the standing agency for administrative restructuring in the province, confirmed it has not proposed or submitted any scheme to reduce the current number of units to 34.

Currently, Bac Ninh maintains 99 commune-level administrative units. Recent official changes involve the conversion of 12 existing communes into wards following a resolution by the National Assembly Standing Committee, which will result in a total of 45 wards and 54 communes. Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing unverified content regarding administrative changes.
