Bac Ninh launches livestock disease prevention campaign
The Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee has ordered a large-scale environmental disinfection and livestock vaccination campaign following outbreaks of African swine fever and avian influenza. Since the beginning of 2026, African swine fever has affected four communes, resulting in the culling of 1,628 pigs, while avian influenza in four other communes led to the burial of 4,223 poultry.
To mitigate the high risk of further spread, the province will implement a second phase of environmental cleaning and disinfection from September 15 to October 15, 2026. This initiative will be paired with a mass vaccination program for livestock and poultry during the autumn-winter season.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will lead the disinfection efforts, while the Department of Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries is responsible for distributing vaccines and chemicals. Local authorities are tasked with identifying high-risk areas, including farms, slaughterhouses, and markets, to ensure thorough sanitation and prevent pathogens from persisting in the environment.
