Bac Ninh leads Vietnam in net migration rate

Bac Ninh province recorded the highest net migration rate in Vietnam for 2025, reaching 19.2 per 1,000 residents. This surpasses Ho Chi Minh City, which ranked second with a rate of 12.5 per 1,000.

Data from the General Statistics Office indicates that employment is the primary driver for relocation, cited by 62.2% of migrants. Other reasons included moving for family or housing (13.5%) and education (12.6%).

While economic hubs like Dong Nai, Da Nang, and Hanoi show positive net migration, several provinces recorded negative rates. Cao Bang reported the lowest net migration at -12.1 per 1,000, followed by Ca Mau (-10.7), Lang Son (-10.0), and An Giang (-10.0). Regionally, the Mekong Delta experienced the lowest net migration rate at -8 per 1,000, while the Southeast and Red River Delta regions saw growth.
