Bac Ninh to become Vietnam's first centrally‑run high‑tech smart city

On 8 July 2026 Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc signed Decision 1242/QĐ‑TTg approving the master plan for Bắc Ninh province through 2050 with a vision to 2075. The plan designates Bắc Ninh as a centrally‑directed Type I city – a model of a green, smart, modern and culturally rich urban centre.

Key objectives include building a high‑tech industrial base centred on electronics, semiconductor, chip manufacturing and artificial intelligence, creating a national and regional hub for these sectors. The city will also develop a multimodal logistics network linking road, water, rail and air transport, and expand social infrastructure such as health, education and cultural facilities. Population forecasts target 7‑8 million residents by 2040, 8‑9 million by 2050 and over 10 million by 2075, with land use expanding to up to 240 000 ha. The plan stresses balanced urban‑rural development, environmental protection, and integration with national defence and security priorities.
