Bachhagel holds repeat municipal election following voting error

The municipality of Bachhagel in Swabia, Germany, has completed a repeat election for its local council. The rerun was necessitated after the Dillingen district office declared the original March election invalid due to a procedural error. Specifically, the Burghagel voters' association had failed to select its candidates via secret ballot, opting instead for an open vote by a show of hands.

As a result of the error, the Burghagel group was barred from participating in the repeat election. The Bürgerblock Bachhagel emerged as the winner with 55.9 percent of the vote, securing eight of the 14 council seats. The Wählergemeinschaft Oberbechingen (WGO) received 29.1 percent, earning four seats, while the Green Party obtained 15 percent, resulting in two seats.

Despite the exclusion of the Burghagel list, the community utilized a strategic placement to ensure representation from that district. Voter turnout for the election was reported at 45.8 percent.
