Bachoco seeks environmental permits for large poultry farm in Yucatán

The Yucatán Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS) has announced a public consultation period regarding an Environmental Impact Assessment (MIA) for a large-scale poultry production unit in Samahil. The project, identified under file MIA-043/2026, involves a facility spanning approximately 224 hectares along the Kinchil-Umán highway.

The facility is reported to consist of 36 rearing sheds for broiler chickens, along with administrative offices, maintenance workshops, and specialized waste management areas. The SDS has opened a five-day window for the public to review the documentation and propose mitigation measures for potential environmental impacts.

Local concerns have been raised regarding the scale of the project and its potential for environmental degradation. Critics have pointed to existing tensions in the Kinchil, Samahil, and Umán areas involving other poultry operations, noting that the massive scale of the proposed farm could generate significant waste.
