Back to Back Theatre announces open rehearsals for NEANDERTHAL

Back to Back Theatre has announced an open invitation for the public to observe the rehearsal process of its upcoming production, NEANDERTHAL—Histoire(s) du théâtre VIII. The piece, scheduled for full creation in 2027, explores themes of extinction and human cognition by bridging prehistory with modern life.

The production follows a voice actor struggling with personal limitations while recording a web series, drawing parallels to the extinction of the Neanderthal species. Developed through collaborations with paleoanthropologists, philosophers, and actors with intellectual and social disabilities, the work aims to critique ableism and human exceptionalism using the aesthetic of nature documentaries. Rehearsal sessions will be held at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe throughout November 2026.
