Back-to-school preparations: Expert advice on routine and health
As the school year approaches, experts offer guidance on helping children transition from summer holidays back to a disciplined routine. To avoid the shock of early mornings, it is recommended to gradually adjust sleep schedules by reducing late-night screen time and digital entertainment at least a week before classes begin.
Health professionals emphasize the importance of physical ergonomics and environment. Jana Böhmová from the Regional Hygiene Station of the Vysočina Region advises that children should sit with feet flat on the floor and knees at a right angle to support concentration and posture. Additionally, proper school bags—which should not be wider than the child's shoulders—and frequent ventilation of classrooms are recommended to maintain focus.
Other key preparations include ensuring children have non-slip footwear to prevent injuries during breaks, maintaining hydration with water or unsweetened tea, and providing healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, and proteins rather than sugary drinks.
