Back to the Future casting story revealed in memoir excerpt

An excerpt from the memoir ‘In My Own Time’ details the actor's journey toward landing the role of Dr. Emmett Brown in the film ‘Back to the Future’. While working on an independent film in Mexico City, the narrator felt their film career was declining and considered returning to stage work in New York.

After initially discarding the screenplay for ‘Back to the Future’, the narrator reconsidered the script and met with director Bob Zemeckis at the Amblin offices on the Universal lot. The meeting was a pivotal moment that led to the casting of the frantic scientist character known for inventing a time-traveling DeLorean.
