Backcountry acquires mobile bike service provider Velofix

Outdoor retailer Backcountry has acquired Velofix, a mobile bike service network operating across the United States and Canada. The transaction, which closed on September 17, 2026, was not disclosed in financial terms.

Velofix operates nearly 100 mobile service vans staffed by 96 certified technicians. Backcountry intends to use the network to bridge the gap between online bicycle purchases and rider readiness. Initial plans include offering at-home assembly for bikes sold through Backcountry’s online channels, with future goals to expand into fully assembled bike delivery and other services.

Backcountry president Kevin Lenau stated the company will continue working with both owned and franchised Velofix operators. While Velofix currently maintains an agreement with the direct-to-consumer brand Canyon, Lenau expressed interest in maintaining that relationship.

This acquisition follows a period of significant expansion for Backcountry since its purchase by CSC Generation in September 2024. Recent additions to its portfolio include Level Nine Sports, Velotech (parent of BikeTiresDirect), and the outdoor apparel brand Coalatree.
