Backrooms film surpasses $400 million at global box office

The indie horror film ‘Backrooms’ has surpassed $400 million at the global box office after nearly four months in theaters. Produced on a $10 million budget, the film has earned approximately $197.5 million domestically and $202.57 million internationally.

Directed by 20-year-old YouTuber Kane Parsons, the film has become A24’s highest-grossing release ever, breaking the previous record held by ‘Marty Supreme’. The film’s success, driven by word-of-mouth and Gen Z appeal, contributed to A24’s most successful summer to date. During the summer season, A24 recorded $237 million in total, outperforming major studios such as Paramount and Warner Bros. in market share.

Parsons has also become the youngest filmmaker to achieve a No. 1 film at the box office.
