Backrooms horror film to stream on HBO Max in September

The horror film ‘Backrooms’, directed by 21-year-old Kane Parsons, is scheduled to arrive on the HBO Max streaming platform on September 25, 2026. The film follows a furniture store owner, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who discovers a portal leading to an endless, unsettling labyrinth of yellow rooms and fluorescent lights.

Produced by A24, the film has been a massive commercial success, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $10 million. This performance makes it the highest-grossing film in A24’s history. The story, which originated from Parsons’ popular YouTube web series, has received critical acclaim, currently holding an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following its streaming debut, the film is expected to air on HBO linear channels on September 26. While the standard version will be available, there is ongoing speculation regarding whether the extended ‘Everything Must Go’ cut, which includes 15 minutes of additional footage, will also be included in the streaming release.
