Backrooms horror film trailer reveals new 'Poolrooms' ahead of 2026 release
A24 released the final trailer for "Backrooms: A Non-Place", a horror‑sci‑fi film directed by Kane Parsons and based on his viral web series. The trailer introduces the "Poolrooms", fan‑created flooded variants of the classic liminal backrooms, and shows multiple characters entering the endless space simultaneously.
The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark, a furniture store owner who disappears after finding a mysterious door, and Renate Reinsve as Dr. Mary Kline, who ventures into the backrooms to rescue him. Supporting cast includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell and Avan Jogia. Production is handled by A24, James Wan's Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment, with filming in Vancouver during summer 2025 under the working title "Effigy".
Italian distributor I Wonder Pictures will release the movie in Italy on 27 May 2026, two days before the U.S. debut. An additional teaser was shown at CCXP México 2026, where Parsons discussed the project's central rule and creative vision.
