Backstreet Boys perform in Düsseldorf as AJ McLean marks sobriety milestone

The Backstreet Boys are performing their ‘Into The Millennium – Homecoming: Live in Germany’ tour at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf. Following the first three shows of the ten-concert series, fan reception has been largely positive, with attendees praising the band's engagement with the entire arena. Some criticisms were noted regarding long queues, expensive VIP packages, and a minimalist stage design.

A significant emotional moment occurred during the Düsseldorf performance when singer AJ McLean announced to the crowd of 48,000 that he has been sober since September 2021. McLean shared the milestone after speaking with his daughter earlier that day. The announcement visibly moved bandmate Kevin Richardson and was met with loud applause from the audience. The group also performed several hits, including ‘I Want It That Way’ and ‘Everybody’, while participating in nostalgic moments with fans.
