Turkish municipalities launch educational and social support initiatives
Various municipalities in Turkey are implementing diverse educational and social support programs for students and families.
In Istanbul, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) has introduced a significant transportation subsidy where students can purchase a one-month transit subscription for 1 TL. This one-time offer is available between September 21 and October 17, 2026, for students under 29, including those in primary, secondary, high school, and university education. Additionally, İBB is providing a 3,500 TL cash grant for stationery to eligible primary and high school students through its ‘Sen Oku Diye’ project.
Other regional initiatives include Bandırma’s vocational training for women in industrial sectors and parent education programs. Mersin is utilizing a mobile ‘Sporbüs’ to bring sports activities to children in rural areas, while Bağcılar and Seferihisar are offering various workshops, tutoring, and youth centers to support social and academic development. In Karatay, the Ali Ulvi Kurucu Youth Center has opened registrations for autumn courses covering music, software, and traditional arts.
