Bağcılar shooting leaves one dead and sparks gang violence allegations

A fatal armed attack occurred in the Fatih neighborhood of Bağcılar, Istanbul, leaving 21-year-old Emirhan Menteşe dead. The incident took place around 22:52 on Pazar Street, where Menteşe and another individual, Baran D., were targeted by unidentified assailants.

Police investigators recovered 13 empty shell casings at the scene, and two bullets struck a nearby business. While Menteşe was pronounced dead at the scene, Baran D. was hospitalized with a leg wound and is reported to be in stable condition.

A relative of the victim, identified as H. M., alleged that the attack was carried out by a gang. The relative claimed that Menteşe had been targeted two weeks prior in a separate shooting where he was wounded in the leg. According to the relative, the perpetrators had sent threatening messages stating, “First we crippled you, now we will kill you.”

Menteşe’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy before being released to his family. His funeral is scheduled to take place in the Görele district of Giresun.
