Bacoli waste facility seized over systematic illegal management

Authorities in Bacoli, near Naples, have seized a waste collection center and ecological island following an investigation into systematic and pervasive illegal activities. The facility, managed by the in-house company Flegrea Lavoro spa, was subject to a preventive seizure by the Carabinieri of the Pozzuoli forestry nucleus, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Naples.

Investigators reported that the plant was only authorized to treat rainwater. Instead, it engaged in irregular management that caused persistent emissions of gas, smoke, and odors from decomposing organic matter and leachate evaporation, affecting nearby residents at the Parco Orione complex. The site also faced issues regarding building abuses, fire safety violations, and noise disturbances from heavy machinery.

The seizure includes industrial buildings, equipment, skips, and compactor trucks. The investigation targets both the former sole administrator and the current sole administrator, who previously served as the technical manager for waste collection and transport.
