Vietnam school incidents: student violence and health concerns
Several incidents involving students have been reported across Vietnam. In Hanoi, authorities are investigating a video showing a male student slapping a teacher in a classroom at Mac Dinh Chi High School. The school is cooperating with police and the Department of Education and Training to clarify the details, noting that the teacher is currently recovering at home.
In Thai Nguyen province, health authorities are investigating why 48 students at Chien Thang Primary and Secondary School experienced symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever following a school meal. While testing revealed Pseudomonas aeruginosa (green pus bacilli) in three water samples from school drinking fountains, officials stated there is currently insufficient scientific evidence to confirm the bacteria as the direct cause of the illness or to conclude it was a case of food poisoning.
In Hai Phong, two educational institutions have suspended groups of students following a fatal altercation. The incident, involving students from the Kinh Mon Continuing Education Center and the Maritime and Waterway College 1, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Hoang Cong Huy. One student has been taken into criminal custody while investigations continue.
