Bacău and Bucharest pause car traffic on weekends for pedestrian zones
The municipality of Bacău will transform its central area into a car‑free zone every weekend from 20 June to 6 September 2026. Traffic on Calea Marașești between Bulevardul I.S. Sturza and the Casa de Asigurări de Sănătate will be restricted from 16:00 Saturday until 23:00 Sunday, allowing pedestrians, cyclists and recreational activities.
In Bucharest, the "Străzi Deschise – București" program will again close Calea Victoriei to vehicles on the weekend of 20‑21 June 2026, from 10:00 to 22:00, with traffic reopening at night. The event includes a themed Oltcit automobile exhibition, a public debate on the city’s future titled "Bucharest 2057", and free guided tours of historic sites called "From Brâncoveanu to Carol II".
