Dofteana: 4-year-old boy found dead in Trotuș River

A four-year-old boy named Avram Iosif Laurențiu, who was diagnosed with autism, was found dead in the Trotuș River in Dofteana, Bacău County, following an extensive search operation.

The child disappeared from his home on Thursday, appearing on surveillance footage walking barefoot and seemingly disoriented. A massive search effort involving over 250 people—including police, gendarmes, firefighters, divers, and volunteers—was launched. Authorities utilized drones, thermal imaging cameras, and a helicopter to locate him.

His body was recovered by divers in the riverbed on Friday. Following the discovery, local authorities opened a criminal investigation into involuntary manslaughter. The case has also drawn scrutiny from child protection services in Bacău and Giurgiu counties. Amidst the tragedy, tensions arose in the community, with some locals raising questions regarding the level of supervision provided to the child.
