Bad Apples film explores British education through dark satire

The film Bad Apples, directed by Jonatan Entzler, is a dark comedy and satire set in a working-class Somerset town in England. Adapted from the Swedish novel De Oönskade, the story follows Maria Spencer, played by Saoirse Ronan, an exhausted elementary school teacher facing professional pressure and an impending Ofsted inspection.

Following a misunderstanding with a class troublemaker named Danny, played by Eddie Waller, Maria kidnaps the young boy and keeps him in her basement in a desperate attempt to protect her job. The film explores themes of the failures within the British state education system and the pressures faced by both teachers and students.

The production features performances from Saoirse Ronan, Eddie Waller, Nia Brown, Jacob Anderson, and Sean Gilder. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on September 18.
