Bad Bunny's Copyright Suit Over Dem Bow Rhythm Gets Drake Support

Puerto Rican reggaetón star Bad Bunny is fighting a federal lawsuit filed by the Jamaican duo Steely & Clevie, who claim that the dembow rhythm used in many Latin tracks infringes their copyrights on the songs “Fish Market,” “Dem Bow” and “Pounder (Dub Mix II). A judge ordered a jury trial, but Bad Bunny’s legal team argues that no single work contains all of the disputed elements, writing, “I think there’s no single work that contains all of the ‘Fish Market’ elements.”

Canadian rapper Drake has publicly backed Bad Bunny’s position, joining other Latin artists such as Myke Towers, Wisin, Yandel and De La Ghetto in supporting the effort to overturn the court’s decision. If the ruling stands, Bad Bunny plans to file an immediate appeal. The case could set a precedent for how rhythmic patterns are treated under copyright law, potentially reshaping practices across the global music industry.
