Bad Bunny's La Casita set ignites debate over Puerto Rico's colonial and slavery legacy

Bad Bunny's tour segment called "La Casita" features live dancing by public figures, including women such as Marta Ortega and Ester Expósito. Conservative feminists have criticised the segment as objectifying women, while journalists defend it as a way to expose contradictions within feminism.

The set is built in Humacao, Puerto Rico, using a historic house that reflects the island’s layered past of Taíno heritage, Spanish colonisation, African slavery on sugar plantations and its current status as a U.S. territory without full voting rights. Designer Mayna Magruder Ortiz intended the installation to highlight these histories and the ongoing debate over Puerto Rican identity and independence.
