Austria faces heat wave with temperatures up to 34 °C

The Austrian weather service and private forecaster GeoSphere predict a heat wave affecting the country through the end of the week. In Vienna, daily maximums are expected to rise above 30 °C, with possible peaks of 33‑34 °C by the weekend. A state-issued heat‑warning is already in place for the capital.

Across Austria, the forecast shows a progressive warming trend from Thursday onward. Highs of 25‑32 °C are expected in most regions, with the western and southern parts reaching up to 34 °C on Monday, the projected peak of the heat wave. Isolated showers may occur near the Italian and Slovenian borders, but the bulk of the country will remain sunny and dry.

Authorities caution that prolonged temperatures in the low‑30s can pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups, and advise the public to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
