German Empire M1895 infantry rucksack documented

A military fur rucksack, known as an M1895 infantry tornister, from the German Empire has been documented. The item features an inner core made of fabric and leather, covered with brown cowhide on the lid and back to protect contents from rain and moisture.

Stamps on the equipment identify it as belonging to the 4th Saxon Infantry Regiment No. 103, specifically issued by the XII Army Corps in 1915. The rucksack also contains ownership stamps for Richard Ilmer, an engineer from Braunschweig who later settled in Bad Sachsa. Ilmer was trained as a pilot at the Halberstadt flying school in 1914 and saw service in France, Königsberg, and Turkey during World War I.
