Badajoz and La Alamedilla water supply crises

In the Badajoz district of Las Vaguadas, more than twelve hours without tap water were caused by the rupture of a 600‑mm pipe feeding the Bote reservoir. The concessionaire Aqualia labeled the fault "important" and began repairs, stating that a gradual refill of the network would allow normal supply to resume before 23:00.

In the municipality of La Alamedilla, residents have been without water suitable for human consumption for over a year. Official analyses reported turbidity, arsenic levels up to 10 µg/L, and, at times, microbiological contamination with Escherichia coli. The town’s limited alternate distribution operates only Monday to Friday, 10:00‑12:00, prompting complaints that the service is insufficient and forces households to buy bottled water.

Both incidents highlight ongoing infrastructure and quality challenges in Spain’s water provision systems, affecting daily life and public health in the affected communities.
