Badajoz archaeological discovery reveals nearly 100 burials

Nearly one hundred funerary remains have been exhumed from a necropolis discovered beneath Huelva Avenue in Badajoz, Spain. The discovery was made during works to replace a collector, according to Adela Rueda, the Director General of Heritage, during a session of the Assembly of Extremadura.

The exhumed remains have been moved to the Provincial Archaeological Museum for anthropological study. In addition to the burials, wall remains attributed to the ancient Santa Marina hermitage were found. To preserve these structures, the construction company, Aqualia, has utilized specialized machinery to avoid disturbing the site, leaving the remains buried for the time being.

Authorities are planning further surveys to determine the full extent of the archaeological site. While more graves are expected to be found, officials are still deciding on the final strategy for their conservation and potential public exhibition.
