Badajoz City Council ordered to disclose political group spending

A court ruling has compelled the Badajoz City Council to disclose how municipal political groups have spent their allocated funds between 2019 and 2024. The annual allocation for these groups totals approximately 298,000 euros, which is expected to reach nearly 1.2 million euros by the end of the current legislature.

The demand for transparency was led by independent councillor Carlos Pérez Romero, who sought accounting documentation and expenditure justifications. After the local government failed to respond to his initial requests, the matter was taken to the Council of Transparency and Good Governance, a national body whose resolutions are binding.

The council's decision to provide the information is now final as of September 1, and the city government has two months to comply with the ruling.
