Badajoz launches guided tour of Francoist remnants on massacre anniversary
On the 90th anniversary of the 1936 Badajoz massacre, the city organized a guided walk to expose remaining Francoist symbols in public spaces. Organisers Enrique González Calderón and José Manuel Rodríguez Pizarro led participants past monuments, plaques and streets linked to the dictatorship, including the Monument to the Fallen, Plaza del Pilar and Avenida de Huelva. The tour highlighted figures such as José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder of the Falange, and General Carracedo, a local officer who joined the coup. The initiative aims to raise public awareness, foster debate about historical memory, and encourage future changes to place names and monuments that still reflect the authoritarian past.
