Badajoz's Castelar Building to Become 32 Tourist Apartments

The historic Castelar building at 3 Parque de Castelar in Badajoz will be converted into 32 tourist apartments ranging from 30 to 48 m². The project, backed by a €2 million investment, began about six weeks ago and is slated for completion in mid‑January 2027. Construction is being carried out by Construcciones y Reformas Joaquín Pérez Arroyo (Cpja) for promoter Gestinmo Inversiones Botavara.

The protected structure, listed under Badajoz’s municipal heritage plan, cannot be used for conventional housing because its interior courtyards do not meet current habitability standards, but it qualifies for tourist‑apartment use. The development will provide roughly 96 guest places, averaging three guests per unit, and adds to the city’s growing supply of tourist accommodations in historic centres.
