Badakhshan Mayor killed in bomb attack in Faizabad

Habibur Rahman Mansur, the mayor of Faizabad in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, was killed in a bomb attack on Thursday. Reports indicate his vehicle was targeted by a bomb near his workplace.

The National Resistance Front claimed responsibility for the attack. This incident follows the killing of Zabihullah Amiri, head of the information and culture department in Badakhshan, who was shot dead less than three weeks ago.

The assassination occurs amid reports of escalating conflict between the Taliban and dissident forces in the region. Juma Khan Fateh, a dissident commander in Badakhshan, has been calling for an uprising. Local reports suggest the Taliban launched a large-scale operation involving special forces and helicopter support to disarm Fateh’s fighters, leading to significant clashes and casualties on both sides.
