Badalona allocates €500 million to overhaul waste collection and street cleaning

Badalona will invest €500 million in a 12‑year contract with FCC Medio Ambiente to modernise the city's street‑cleaning and waste‑collection services. The plan adds 149 new staff, raising the workforce from 416 to 565, and expands the vehicle fleet to 146 units, with about 30 % of the new vehicles electric.

The upgrade includes installing up to 6,000 smart, sensor‑equipped containers and replacing existing bins with vandal‑resistant metal models. These technologies aim to improve route efficiency and boost overall cleaning activity by roughly 30 %, while reducing emissions and noise in the city’s neighborhoods.
