Baden-Württemberg investigates teacher lifesaving qualifications

Authorities in Baden-Württemberg are investigating the lifesaving qualifications of teachers responsible for school swimming lessons. The investigation follows reports of irregularities regarding the issuance of rescue swimmer certificates.

One confirmed case in the Baden-Baden area involved a DLRG examiner who allegedly issued a certificate despite the individual not meeting the required lifesaving standards. To ensure student safety, the Ministry of Education has mandated that school administrations verify that instructors have completed specific training or hold a silver rescue swimmer badge. If doubts arise regarding a teacher's ability to perform rescues, they are to be removed from swimming instruction until their qualifications are re-verified.
