Baden-Württemberg lakes see rising temperatures and regular quality monitoring

Swimming lakes and water quality monitoring in Baden-Württemberg are key considerations for the summer season. In the Karlsruhe region, the Health Office regularly tests natural bathing waters and swimming pools between May and September to check for bacteria, adhering to EU and state hygiene regulations. Results are published annually to inform the public about water quality levels.

In Lake Constance, water temperatures show a warming trend. Data from the State Institute for the Environment indicates that since the 1990s, average annual temperatures have frequently exceeded 12 degrees Celsius, with averages staying above 13 degrees Celsius since 2016. While surface temperatures can exceed 25 degrees Celsius in summer, deeper waters remain significantly colder, rarely rising above five degrees Celsius at depths of 250 meters.
