Baden-Württemberg minister offers jobs to Berlin police

Following the electoral victory of the Die Linke party in Berlin, Manuel Hagel, the Interior Minister of Baden-Württemberg, has offered Berlin police officers the opportunity to transfer to his state.

Hagel stated that the Berlin police force is too valuable to be subject to a “left-wing clan mayor” who intends to reduce their resources and authority. He invited officers who stand for “security, freedom, and our rule of law” to join Baden-Württemberg, suggesting that the political shift in Berlin could undermine internal security.

The offer comes in response to Die Linke's election program, which proposes halting the further expansion of police resources and redistributing those funds toward social work. Die Linke emerged as the strongest force in the recent Berlin election with 25.7 percent of the vote.
