Baden-Württemberg reports rise in anti-queer crimes

Registered anti-queer crimes in the German state of Baden-Württemberg have seen a significant increase. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, following an inquiry by the Green Party, the number of recorded cases rose from 54 in 2022 to 200 in the previous year, which included 22 violent offenses.

Police reports indicate that some victims are being lured into traps via dating applications, leading to crimes committed by individuals or groups. However, authorities stated it is unknown whether these perpetrators are structurally networked.

The Ministry of the Interior attributed the rise to several potential factors, including societal developments, increased sensitivity, and changes in reporting behavior, though no single definitive cause could be identified from the statistics. In the first half of 2026, 34 cases were registered, including three violent crimes, maintaining levels similar to the same period in the previous year.
