SPD Baden-Württemberg elects new dual leaders Isabel Cademartori and Robin Mesarosch

At the SPD party congress in Ulm, the Baden‑Württemberg branch elected a new co‑leadership team. Isabel Cademartori, 38, received 87.8% of the votes (266 of 303) and Robin Mesarosch, 35, secured 78.5% (238 votes). The duo replaces the previous leadership after the party’s historically poor result in the spring state election, where it fell to 5.5% and missed parliamentary entry.

Cademartori and Mesarosch presented themselves as a generational overhaul, pledging to strengthen the SPD’s role for social justice and economic stability. In his inaugural speech, Mesarosch accused Chancellor Friedrich Merkel (note: should be Friedrich Merz) of lying about reform promises and criticised the “artificial burgfrieden” of a potential black‑red coalition. He emphasized the need for clear policy differences and warned against “amateurish” governance. Both leaders highlighted their social‑media reach—Mesarosch alone followed by over 129,000 Instagram users—to engage younger voters and rebuild party support.
