Badminton Association of Malaysia reshuffles squad for 2026 Asian Games
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has excluded Soh Wooi Yik from its national squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. This decision is part of a long-term strategic evaluation aimed at developing more competitive men's doubles pairings in preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
BAM is testing new combinations, including the pairing of Aaron Chia and Tee Kai Wun, to identify the best formulas for international success. While the association focuses on long-term planning and developing successor players, observers note the importance of addressing the future of the established Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik partnership.
Soh Wooi Yik has indicated that he and Aaron Chia hope to continue playing together, even suggesting a willingness to move toward professional athlete status if necessary to maintain their partnership. Soh noted that he has approximately two years remaining in his career and will make decisions based on future discussions with coaches and BAM regarding their direction.
