Badri Japaridze criticizes lack of clarity in political party ban proceedings
Badri Japaridze, a leader of the ‘Strong Georgia - Lelo’ party, has expressed frustration regarding the ongoing legal proceedings in the Constitutional Court to ban several opposition political parties. Japaridze stated that for two consecutive days, representatives from the affected parties have requested specific arguments and evidence from the plaintiffs, but these requests have not been satisfied.
The legal challenge, signed by 88 members of Parliament from the ‘Georgian Dream’ party, seeks to declare several political entities unconstitutional. The parties involved include ‘United National Movement’, ‘Coalition for Change’, ‘Strong Georgia - Lelo’, ‘Federalist Party’, and ‘Gakharia for Georgia’.
Japaridze noted that while the allegations involve violations of Article 23, which concerns the incitement of ethnic hatred, the parties maintain there is no connection between their actions and such violations. He has called on the court to provide specific details regarding the accusations against each individual party.
