Badung Regency implements tourism zoning to prioritize quality over quantity

The Badung Regency Tourism Office has introduced a new zoning strategy to expand tourism activities beyond the southern region. Under this plan, the southern area will focus on entertainment and accommodation, the central region will emphasize culture and arts, and the northern region will be developed through ecotourism concepts.

To promote these areas, the government is organizing post-tours and farm trips involving travel industry players from India and East Asia. Key destinations include Sangeh, Taman Ayun, and various tourism villages. Additionally, the Barong Festival is scheduled for November 6–7, 2026, at Taman Ayun as part of the Kharisma Event Nusantara program.

Experts and officials emphasize that tourism success should no longer be measured solely by visitor numbers. Instead, metrics should include length of stay, tourist spending, environmental awareness, and the economic benefits returned to local communities. There are also calls for the national government to strengthen local-potential-based tourism to reduce regional inequality and preserve cultural identity.
