BAE Systems awarded contract for USS Boxer modernization

BAE Systems has been awarded a contract worth approximately $150 million to perform maintenance, modernization, and repairs on the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD-4). The contract, structured as a Selected Restricted Availability, could reach a total value of $180 million if all options are exercised.

The work will be conducted at Naval Base San Diego. This initiative follows previous operational challenges, including a 2024 Indo-Pacific deployment by the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit that was disrupted by continuous maintenance issues on the vessel. To address such recurring disruptions, the U.S. Navy is piloting new maintenance programs designed to provide maintainers with extended lead times for planning and preparation.
