BAE Systems launches Shadow EW electronic warfare solutions
BAE Systems has launched the Shadow EW family, a series of compact electronic warfare (EW) solutions designed for small airborne platforms and uncrewed systems. These systems are engineered for low size, weight, and power requirements, making them suitable for aircraft that cannot accommodate the larger EW suites typically found on bigger combat platforms.
The Shadow EW products utilize commercial microchips for high-performance computing, which BAE Systems states allows for higher production volumes and lower costs compared to bespoke electronic warfare equipment. The systems feature an open architecture and software-defined capabilities, allowing for field upgrades and rapid integration to counter evolving threats.
Key mission applications for the Shadow EW include situational awareness, targeting, deception, and survivability in contested electromagnetic environments. Production of the Shadow EW family is slated to take place at BAE Systems facilities in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
