Baejae High School baseball returns to competition after suspension

Baejae High School baseball team returned to official competition on August 12 at Mokdong Baseball Stadium, marking their first game in 45 days following a disciplinary suspension. The team participated in the first round of the 54th Bonghwangdaegi National High School Baseball Tournament against Incheon High School.

The suspension stemmed from a controversy in late June involving inappropriate cheering slogans that were interpreted as disparaging the 5·18 Democratization Movement. While the Korea Baseball Softball Association initially imposed a six-month suspension, the Korea Sports Council later reduced the penalty to one month following requests for leniency from Gwangju Il High School.

During the match, the team displayed a restrained atmosphere, avoiding loud cheering and bowing to the crowd before the game. Baejae High School lost the match 5-8 to Incheon High School, resulting in their elimination from the tournament and the end of their season. The team's head coach was excluded from the game due to internal school disciplinary measures, and two players involved in the initial controversy were also barred from participating.
