Bafana Bafana coaching search faces delays amid contract talks

The South African Football Association (SAFA) is navigating coaching transitions for the Bafana Bafana national team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. While Pitso Mosimane is the preferred candidate to replace Hugo Broos, negotiations regarding his contract and the inclusion of his permanent backroom staff have caused delays.

Due to these ongoing discussions, SAFA is considering appointing Molefi Ntseki as an interim coach to lead the team for upcoming matches against Guinea and Eritrea in September. Former coach Hugo Broos was also approached to lead the squad for these qualifiers but declined.

If Mosimane is appointed, he faces immediate selection challenges due to several player injuries. Key defenders, including Khuliso Mudau, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, and Khulumani Ndamane, are currently monitoring fitness concerns ahead of the September international window.
