Bafra establishes scorpion farming and venom extraction center

A new scorpion farming and venom extraction center has been established in the Bafra district of Samsun, Turkey. The facility aims to produce scorpion venom under controlled conditions to be used as a biological raw material for scientific and technological research.

Founding partners Ezgi Zengin and Ömer Er stated that the center manages all processes, including care, feeding, breeding, and venom extraction, in a secure and recorded manner. The harvested raw venom is preserved under appropriate conditions for future use in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and the defense industry.

Following initial R&D efforts, the project utilized scorpions brought from Şanlıurfa via grants and has received official ministry approval. The center is one of the first of its kind in the Black Sea region. R&D activities are also being coordinated with the Ondokuz Mayıs University Technology Transfer Center.
