Baghdad Taci Base Explosion and Duhok Fire Triggered by Heat

On 2 August 2026 an ammunition depot at the Taci Military Base north of Baghdad detonated after extreme temperatures caused munitions to ignite, according to General Saad Maan of the Iraqi Security Media Network. Firefighters and civil‑defence teams were dispatched to contain the blaze.

In the same period a commercial warehouse in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan, caught fire, engulfing stored fruit juices, energy drinks, detergents, diapers and other cleaning products. The cause remains under investigation and the damage is estimated at roughly US$2 million.
